Progress on Irrigation

Updated: 6 days ago

The new well at the Huntington Lane island was installed by Mauer Well and Pump Service, and Indiana & Michigan Power bored a conduit line from the island to the transformer on the boundary of the golf course.

KPVA Vice President Sandy meets with KPVA homeowner Cary and an I&M Power technician to confirm path of underground electrical line. I&M bored a line and installed a 3-inch pipe for conduit.

Electricity for the Huntington Lane island comes from a transformer hidden among trees along the utility easement abutting the golf course.

The buried electrical line from the transformer will emerge at the H-frame, on which will be affixed a circuit breaker and electrical meter. The well's piping emerges above ground to accommodate the brass backflow preventer.

The new well system includes a required backflow preventer and a blowout line to protect the irrigation system from freezing in winter.

As next steps, I&M Power will pull wire through the buried conduit, install the meter on the H-frame, and connect the buried cable at both ends. Then a contractor will do finish electrical work and irrigation plumbing to connect to the existing network of piping and sprinkler heads. Landscaping will eventually clean up the site.

Thanks go to Vice-President Sandy for facilitating this project. New irrigation was necessitated when the existing water provider, Knollwood Country Club (to whom KPVA paid a water fee), cut off the supply to KPVillas because of their own irrigation woes.

At the 2025 Annual Meeting on September 9, the KPVA Board will present an update on the irrigation situation, for other islands are similarly in the queue for irrigation upgrades. For the Huntington island project there has been neither an increase in HOA fees nor a special assessment.
