Yet Another Solar Benefit

Solar energy already serves homeowners in KPVillas. Solar pathway lights, for example, help owners and visitors safely navigate their walkways at night. And because the solar-powered string likely dims going into the wee hours when walkways are not used, they contribute less to light pollution than electrified versions that beam unnecessarily all night long.

Insisting on no solar denies new opportunities that benefit homeowners. Ironically, the current Rule prohibits the solar pathway lights. In addition to prohibiting solar panels on houses, the Official Rule declares no solar device shall be maintained on any portion of any lot.

Denying solar in every conceivable application, as the blanket prohibition now does, is self-defeating. Solar applications will benefit all homeowners, including those for whom circumstances are not right to go solar themselves. If a neighbor will pay to build infrastructure that benefits everyone--and that improvement is nearly invisible--we should encourage it.
