Colored flags behind the guardhouse locate the utilities in preparation for digging a new irrigation well. The well site is close to the guardhouse because an electrical feed line to power the pump already exists there.

The Covington island well will be the second new installation after the completed Huntington Lane well, with the KPVA Board anticipating additional upgrades for Candlewycke island and Bent Tree/Oak Hill island. The Huntington island well required a new electrical line to be run from a distant transformer. The first two well installations are being funded within existing annual budgets.

The new wells are necessary after the traditional source of irrigation was cut off. In recent years KPVillas has annually paid Knollwood Country Club (KCC) for supplying water to the island sprinkler systems. However, facing its own irrigation system shortcomings, KCC abruptly ended the four-decade water supply arrangement.
