The KPVA Board adopted a new Rule in which only US flags described in US Flag Code may be affixed to the front lamp post. The official text of the Rule states:

A flag flown from the lamp post, while optional, shall only be the United States flag complying with the design described in Title 4, United States Code, Chapter 1, Section 1, Part 1-Design of the Flag.  See https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?path=/prelim@title4&edition=prelim.

The new Rule is in response to dialogue at the 2025 KPVA Annual Meeting in which homeowners sought clarity on flag displays. Previously the official KPVA documents had not defined what flag(s) could be flown.

Many homeowners wanted the US flag to be the staple, while others had accepted school affiliated flags and others. At the annual meeting, some people asserted flags that slightly altered the design of Old Glory were indeed US flags, which they are not, per US Flag Code.

The KPVA Covenants Section 9 states, "Such rules as are adopted may be amended and supplemented by the vote of a majority of the Board of Directors which shall cause copies of such rules to be delivered and mailed promptly to all Owners.”

Flag Day is celebrated annually on June 14.  It commemorates the day in 1777 when the Second Continental Congress officially adopted the flag design that KPVA allows.
