Bacteria Added to Ponds

Jones Lake Management delivered the first of two seasonal applications of bacteria to the neighborhood ponds. The product Aqua Tron is listed on their website as "microbes and bacteria that rapidly metabolize excess nutrients, pulling them from the water column and returning the water to a naturally healthy and visually pleasing state."

The Jones Lake Management technician Noah, who tossed the water-soluble packet into the KPVillas pond, described it as "basically like vitamins and minerals, but alive. Like your gut biome for the pond."
Meanwhile, a stiff spring breeze prevented Noah from spraying an herbicide on the invasive yellow-flag irises that are emerging. Though a 2024 herbicide application started the process of ridding the aggressive plant from the water's edge of the KPVA parcel, some remnants and a seed bank will yield residual growth. Follow-up treatments will knock the irises down further each time.
